Sure, the plot is based on a bunch of obnoxiously sci-fi time-travel shenanigans, but it is exciting and briskly paced with plenty of cleverly telegraphed twists, and it never allows the 'junction' choices to derail character motivations for the sake of plot convenience. Sure, none of the characters are as well-written as Alan Wake or Max Payne, but the actors generally do a phenomenal job with the scripts they were given, handing in big-screen-worthy performances both on-camera and in the VO booth. On a more positive note, Quantum Break's flaws are in no way fatal. And speaking as a Remedy fan, while I think Quantum Break is certainly a good game, it didn't feel like a Remedy game-which is about the worst thing I have to say about it. Whether any of these missing pieces of the 'Remedy formula' are pros or cons is certainly subjective, but they are emblematic of what the studio seems to have been trying to do with this game. There are no bombastic set piece moments synced to new music from Poets of the Fall. Characters and their motivations play second fiddle to a complex plotline that leaves an entirely unnecessary hook open for a (thankfully) unlikely sequel. The focus on relatable, human themes at the heart of most of their stories is largely traded in for well-trodden sci-fi mumbo-jumbo driving the plot.
